Lol, I think this is them capitalizing on the popularity of zombies to get people to listen, but the dialogue is terrible.

That's their official position, yes.

Well, you have to consider that this will help stop all the people who think they're being amusing by asking what the CDC's official position is.

To be fair, planning for truly bizarre disasters DOES help with planning for real, actual disasters. It helps grant planners some flexibility of thought, and makes it so they have to consider ideas and problems that they might not have before. "Ok, what if giant lobsters the size of a city bus ARE attacking the city? Now what?" "Distribute butter and bibs to the populace?"

Also, it is a fine thing to have a 'disaster preparedness bag', for emergency evacuation or the like. However, more people are likely to make and maintain one if you call it a 'Zombie Preparedness Bag' and keep it next to a machete.

See, now I'm just imagining some poor schmuck at the CDC getting so fed up with questions about zombies they go and make it all official. If it helps it's good and a machete isn't a bad tool in a real disaster either, albeit a hunting knife might be better.
